O Gaio é uma ave cautelosa e tímida, não permite uma observação muito próxima, porém é facilmente observada a voar entre ramos em bosques de folha caduca ou em cobertos de coníferas. A sua alimentação é variada, mas tem um especial interesse, por bolotas, armazenando-as durante o Outono para se poder alimentar melhor no Inverno. De referir que, esta ave tem a especial capacidade de imitir sons similares ao de outras aves como o da águia-de-asa-redonda ou o açor.

The Jay is a cautious and shy bird, does not permit a very close observation, but is easily observed flying between branches in groves of deciduous or coniferous covered.
